Managing Suicide Intervention

The workshop

Managing Suicide Interventions (MSI) is a new endorsed programme developed by Mind Cymru in association with the Institute for Leadership & Management, to build on the learning of the highly successful ASIST programme. MSI is accredited on the Quality Assured Lifelong Learning (QALL) pillar and gives professional recognition of the learning gained by offering 6 credits at level 4.

MSI is aimed at individuals in a wide range of settings who are seeking professional recognition of suicide intervention skills.  The training builds on skills and understanding gained through ASIST, reflecting further on suicide interventions by means of group discussions, practice and self-reflection.  The use of role-play, group work, observation and peer review encourages participants to share in experiential learning.  MSI is comprised of two 1 day workshops, usually within a four week period.  Participants use a journal to record their thoughts and observations in the interval between workshops.  The course is assessed and is externally verified by the ILM with whom participants are registered.

Through attending MSI participants will:

  • Understand causes and prevalence of suicidal behaviour
  • Understand the role of the caregiver in managing suicide interventions
  • Demonstrate the skills needed in suicide intervention
  • Reflect on practice and personal impact.

This course is available to all participants who have completed ASIST.  The cost of £285 per participant covers the training and assessment, materials, and refreshments, and also incorporates registration with the ILM and the external verification of the course.  One trainer can train up to 12 participants and two trainers can train a group of up to 24 participants.

MSI is endorsed by ILM and City & Guilds, and is accredited on the Quality Assured Lifelong Learning (QALL) pillar of the Credit Qualification Framework Wales (CQFW).

Please note: You must have completed ASIST to register for MSI.
