Research reports rising suicide rates linked to financial crisis
A recently published study has linked rising suicide rates in Europe to the fallout from the global economic downturn.
Lead by Dr David Stuckler of Cambridge University, the results of this analysis on the health impact of the recession have been reported by the BBC and the Independent, among others. The authors noted that countries particularly hard hit by the crisis, such as Ireland and Greece, showed comparatively greater rises in suicides. A summary of the study's findings by the authors appears in the Lancet medical journal.
