New ASIST Trainers for Wales and England

World Suicide Prevention Day – Sept 10th, 2011
The theme of this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘Preventing Suicide in Multicultural Societies’. Sponsored by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), the day promotes increased awareness and action to prevent suicides. The WHO estimates that worldwide almost 3000 people die by suicide each day. This equates to nearly 1 million preventable and premature deaths each year.

Positive Choices trains the Fire Service
The Positive Choices Project has trained 44 South Wales Fire Service personnel in two courses specifically aimed at providing them with the skills and confidence to intervene with someone at risk of suicide. A third course is due to be run in May.
